There were so many great reactions to a previous post on 10 ways to be creative like a kid. I’ve had emails, tweets, in-person conversations, and even a business newspaper interview about the ideas for adults to be more creative by doing what kids do. When you get that kind of response, what else do you do, but come up with 10 more ways to be creative like a kid!

  • Don’t do things in the suggested order. Do them in whatever order you want to do them.
  • Don’t eat your food; play with your food! Sculpt your food into a monster.
  • Run down the hall to a meeting when you’re late.
  • Talk to the person next to you throughout a meeting. Or pass notes. Or both.
  • Put some oversized paper on the floor and sketch your BIG dreams and ideas.
  • Go outside for recess twice a day to get some fresh air.
  • Have a whole meal of triangle-shaped food – pizza, Doritos, cheese, pie, you name it. If it has 3 sides, eat it!
  • Demand a really outrageous dessert - a skyscraper ice cream soda, a hot fudge brownie delight, or a chocolate chip cookie with ice cream on top. Clap when you first see it and laugh when you eat it!
  • Create some funny alternative words to “Jingle Bells” or another well-known song.
  • Stay up WAY past your bed time playing, reading, or telling scary stories!

Try a new taste like a blueberry pancake on a chicken-pattie sandwich! (One of my 14 YO twins did that last week.)

It’s so funny Dave that one of the ideas which I didn’t include this time was to have a “blue food” night! Had never thought about blueberry pancakes and chicken….that is creative!

Thank you, this really lifted my mood! Embrace the kid within!

Awesome Mike.  To find that inner kid, we can start taking folks at face value a bit more and quit trying to figure out “what they really mean” and “what they want from us”.  Now to talk my wife into Doritos and pizza for the night….

Great additions, Jacob. You can NEVER go wrong with triangle food night.
Make sure you include the pie though!

  5. Kris Adair says:

My girls are still young and love to laugh. The older one laughs and then the younger one follows her lead. They have no reason but they sure enjoy it. Sometimes I laugh with them and that keeps them going longer.

Can i add Lick the chocolate of its wrapper, dig into the yummy cholesterol cake with your fingers!! Jump on the puddles that form during the rainy season and get shoes really dirty!!!?

  7. Pofuff says:

Use an object for something else other than its primary purpose. We just finished creating an ottoman/storage box for stuffed toys from a milk crate with a cover made of plywood and fabric-wrapped foam.
