Mike, great insight as always. When it comes to genuine relationship-building, lunch (or coffee, or bagels, or whatnot) is so much better than a more formal structure. No matter what your department or industry, we can all benefit from creative practices of those we admire. Not only is this also true for senior-level executives– it’s perhaps even more true!
Oh, and by the way… Will you have lunch with me?
Mike, who are you taking to lunch?
This is a good one. I am very big on networking because I find that to be the key to success.
We have multiple comments – gotta love that!
Anonymous #1 is Sally Hogshead, and I would LOVE to go to lunch with you Sally if we’re ever in the same place at the same time! Maybe Palm Springs in October at the AMA Market Research Conference.
For everybody else, if you aren’t familiar with Sally, here’s your to-do list:
1. Visit her website – Radical Careering!2. Buy her book Radical Careering3. Follow her on Twitter
Got it? Go do it. Now! If you care about your career, that is.
Anonymous #2 – I’m going to take Jan Harness to lunch when she gets back to town and talk about the next draft of “Creative Instigation.” We’re five drafts in and getting closer to having a real book. Jan is a true Creative Instigator, plus she is SO hopeful for incredible things happening in 2009!
And Manori – At its core, so much of what we do is all about how we can connect with and benefit others. Thanks for sharing your comment!
